“We owe the SISSA we know today to him.” The words with which SISSA celebrated Daniele Amati’s 90th birthday in 2021 resonate today with even greater intensity and emotion. Having passed away during the night, Amati leaves a profound and lasting mark on the history of the School.
Physicist and former Director of SISSA, Amati shaped the institution during a fifteen-year tenure that began in 1986. He left CERN, attracted by the optimism of SISSA founder Paolo Budinich, and went on to build a project that proved deeply innovative over the years. Colleagues remember his vision, extraordinary intuition, ability to value people, and exceptional humanity.
The School joins the international scientific community in remembering a leading figure of twentieth-century theoretical physics.
