The Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Art and Sciences (ILAS) is SISSA’s hub for bridging science with society. Founded in 1986, ILAS promotes critical reflection, cross-sector education, and innovative forms of science communication.
Its activities span three key areas:
- Advanced postgraduate programs (Masters) designed to train professionals at the intersection of science, technology, and society
- A rich calendar of public events and outreach initiatives that foster dialogue between research and the wider community
- Special projects in data journalism, European training programs, and seasonal schools that explore new ways to connect science, education, and civic engagement. Through these multifaceted activities, ILAS embodies SISSA’s mission of advancing a responsible, open, and inclusive scientific culture
